Downtown Bollard Installation January 28 and Feb 4, 2019

The City of Brenham received a grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) for $23,500 to begin the Downtown Bollard Project. This project is designed to enhance the public safety of our downtown area during community events such as Hot Nights, Cool Tunes, Lighted Christmas Parade, Juneteenth Parade, Homecoming Parade, Washington County Fair Parade, and other events in the downtown area where large gatherings occur. The bollards allow for temporary closure of the street during downtown events to deter vehicular traffic from unintentionally entering the event.

Map of installation phases:

groups of people gathered around a maps of Brenham

The Comprehensive Plan is a long-range planning document which will identify and prioritize the City's needs and goals for the next twenty years. The plan will examine the needs of the community holistically to ensure that land uses are supported by infrastructure and facilities. The current Comprehensive Plan was adopted in November 2008 with the help of the Lower Colorado River Authority.

On September 20, 2018, the City Council approved a professional services agreement with Planning Consultant, Kendig Keast Collaborative (KKC) for the purposes of developing a Comprehensive Plan update. The Comprehensive Plan process includes a large public input component. Citizens, local businesses, local elected and appointed officials, and all community stakeholders are strongly encouraged to participate in the 12-month planning process. KKC has expertise in developing long-range planning documents and is familiar with best practices to encourage and facilitate public participation for the project.

The Town Hall meeting will be facilitated by KKC and will begin with a brief update on the project status followed by a variety of interactive and hands-on activities. Door prizes will be offered to participants.

We hope you can join us for the discussion and welcome all respectful thoughts and comments. For more detailed information, please contact Stephanie Doland at (979) 337-7269 or Those interested in providing feedback who cannot attend the meeting may also contact Stephanie to offer comments concerning signage in Brenham.

Watch Your Car - This Holiday Season November 21, 2018

Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority - Watch Your Car - Santa driving with gifts in a car - Holiday Alert
Protect your vehicle and what's inside while holiday shopping

Five keys to protecting your vehicle while shopping

  1. Hide your valuables from plain site.
This holiday season is already looking like it could be a cold one, so it may be wise to pack a blanket, which can
also provide a great cover for gifts when you aren't able to get home quickly with your purchases. Another tip
that's often overlooked: keep your cell phone cords and other device accessories out of sight. Burglars are
willing to break a window or try a door when they see a cord because there's a chance that a device will be in
    the vehicle.
  2. Park in well-lighted areas or attended lots.
Car thieves and burglars use the cover of night to avoid witnesses and detection. The same goes for unattended
parking lots. If you have to do your shopping after the sun goes down, be sure to park in a well-lighted area. Be
aware of your surroundings. If you're alone and it's late, consider asking the store security to accompany you to
    your parked vehicle.
  3. Don't leave sensitive documents in your car.
A car burglar may take your sensitive information to commit identity fraud. Instead of keeping this in the glove
compartment of your vehicle, keep it in your wallet or purse.
  4. Never leave your car running while unattended, even if you'll only be gone for a minute.
Vehicles are commonly stolen at convenience stores, gas stations, ATMs, etc. Many vehicles are also stolen on
cold mornings when they are left unattended to warm up. Leaving your key in an unattended motor vehicle is a
    crime in Texas.
  5. Lock your vehicle.
While it's the most obvious bit of advice, reports from specialized auto theft investigators indicate that far too
many motorists forget to lock their vehicles. In some areas, investigators report that around half of burglaries
and thefts are directly attributed to unlocked vehicles.
